SEO - 9 Ridiculously Easy Steps to the Top 10

Search Engine Optimization companies are making a fortune by doing the menial work that is overlooked by many designers. It is ridiculously easy to do most of the work done by most SEO companies, all you have to do is create good habits.

There are 9 main points you should focus on:

• Keywords
• URL Text
• Description, Meta tags
• Title tags
• Image Names
• ALT tags
• Heading tags
• Content
• Hyperlinks

The focus of these 8 steps is to load your pages with as many "keywords" as possible.

Keywords
Keywords are the most important aspect of good SEO, this is where you tell the Search Engines what your site is about. Search Engines use an algorithm to determine the "Keyword Density" of your site, this formula is:

Total Words ÷ Keywords= Keyword Density

Use this formula on your competitors web site and see how they score, then aim to beat that score.

Choose keywords that best relate to the information, products or services that you are offering. For instance, if I am designing a site about "Web Design", I want my site to include the words "Web Design" as many times as possible.

However, most people don't just search for just one word, they type phrases, so you should consider the phrases that best suit your sites target market. For example, if I am creating a site about "Web Design" in New Orleans, I would include "New Orleans web design" in my keywords. Another way around this is to not separate my keywords with commas, just use spaces, and the Search Engines will make the phrases for you. The most important thing to remember is that the content of each page is different, so only use keywords pertaining to that page.

URL Text
When you name a new page you have the option to call it anything you could possibly think of, why not use a keyword? After all, the URL address is the first things a search engine comes across when indexing your pages. You have to remember content doesn't come easy to everyone, so you gotta slip in your keywords when the process gives you an easy one.

Description Meta tags
These tags are dwindling in importance since Search Engines are now looking at content, but every little bit counts.

Optimize your meta tags to match your content, products, and services, and the Search Engines that still look at meta data will reward your efforts.

Title Tags
Title tags are the tags that tell the Search Engine the title, or formal description of the document or page. This is the word or phrase that is seen at the top of the browser window. The most important rule about title tags is, don't put anything in the title tags but keywords. Once again this is an easy time to slip in your keywords, so don't miss out.

Image Names
As I said before, content doesn't come easy to everyone, so slip in your keywords whenever possible, this applies to image names. If you are saving a picture of a guy working on a computer for your web design web site, don't call it "some_dude.jpg", call it "web_site_design.jpg". The Search engine will look at the code for the site and see the image pertains to the content of the site and this will be another relevant element on that particular page. You have to take the easy ones when you are given a chance.

ALT tags
Alt tags are keywords that you can attach to images, giving more weight to the image since Search Engines can't analyze the content of the image itself. Here is a chance to slip in more keywords without writing great content, use it.

Heading tags
Heading tags are associated with the bold font that leads into a section of text. Like this:

Web Design
Web Design Inc. offers custom web site designs...

Your heading tags should only be keywords, and should be presented in the order that your Meta tags follow.

H1= first meta tag, H2= second meta tag...

Try to utilize all 6 heading tags on each page to ensure maximum page optimization.

Content
As every expert will tell you, "Content is King." Each web page should have at least 350 words on it, and the more the better, but keep in mind the formula for keyword density. You don't want to fill a page with 1500 words of jibba-jabba and only 5 keywords in it. Some people get hung-up on how browsers display text, and use images with text in them because they want a cool font, but browsers can't read the text embedded in images, so this content ads no weight to the page in a Search Engines eyes.

Linkbaiting is the new trend among high ranking sites. Linkbaiting means writing quality content, or articles that other web sites can display on their pages as long as they give credit, and a link to your site.

You don't have to be a vi or emac expert to write good web content, just be thoughtful of how you word things and incorporate your keywords.

Hyperlinks
Hyperlinks are text links to other pages on your site. The rules of SEO and hyperlinks are easy:

• Use hyperlinks so the Search Engine will have a text link to follow to the next page
• Don't use one word links, use long link phrases, preferably keyword phrases
• Use bullets, or some sort of small image that you can attach an ALT tag to, this will ad more importance to the link, and throw in a couple of free keywords for you.

Keep these 9 aspects in mid when designing a site, and you are sure to have a leg up on the competition.

Why Your Business Needs Strong Search Engine Rankings

Running a modern business needs a least some concept of vital modern technologies, like the Internet and email, in order to keep up with the competition and exploit emerging opportunities to take things to the next level. A crucial part of this awareness is establishing a business website, and understanding the various simple ways you can improve your search engine rankings under your chosen keywords to bring in more traffic and to increase online sales.

Search engines, such as Google and Yahoo, are pretty much the foundation of the Internet as we know it, and if you're not there, you're losing out on a range of benefits that come from being visible online. Firstly, being identifiable under your keywords can help your potential customers find your website. Websites that don't rank well for their most important keywords tend to be less frequently discovered, which means you may be missing out on sales as a result of a poor ranking.

On the Internet, search engines are a crucial driver of traffic, and it's possible to receive hundreds of thousands of visitors each month, maybe more, with a strong ranking website within your target market. It's no wonder big business pays millions of dollars to protect and deliver strong search engine rankings. If you're buried way back on page 50, what real chance have you got of pulling in new visitors that have not already heard of your company or the products you offer?

Outside of the Internet, you market your business by telling others about your products and investing in getting your brand seen and heard. Online, search engines provide a great, low cost opportunity to bring in potential customers to your website, and achieving a strong ranking with your site could help increase customer numbers and drive sales.

Search engines are also a great way of marketing your business because your website will appear any time of the day or night under your chosen key search phrases, and your website should do your marketing and sales for you. It's like having a permanent, 24/7 advert for your business where you can choose whether or not more people see it by gunning for top rankings. Even when you're fast asleep or away on vacation, a good search engine ranking could potentially be bringing in fresh customers to your website for no or very little ongoing cost, which could easily be converting into more direct web sales in no time, and providing you with residual financial benefits.

Search engine rankings are crucial to the success of any modern business. For some yet to even take that first step onto the Internet with a basic web presence, search engine manipulation might sound like a daunting prospect. However by taking the time to learn basic SEO principles, or by employing the help of a SEO professional, your business could benefit from an exceptional return on investment through the major search engines, with a long-term positive impact on the success of your website and ultimately your business.

How Not To Promote Your Internet Business

So, you have this great web site, professionally designed and optimized to the max, but no one visits your site? Could it be because you come up somewhere around page 500 in the major search engines?

You're probably thinking, "maybe I should spend some money on professional SEO, or perhaps buy some guaranteed traffic for my site. This will surely put me on the map."

Well, guess what? Don't waste your money on these gimmicks, because I've tried them all and the only ones making money are the companies I've dumped my hard earned cash into.

I received an email the other day, proclaiming "We'll submit your website to over 30,000 top search engines" - for a fee, of course.

You're thinking, "this is great! 30,000 top search engines, I'm sure to get on page 1 of the search results on at least 1% of them."

Stop and think a little harder. Are there really 30,000 TOP search engines? I can only think of about a half dozen search engines I would consider to be tops. Maybe another dozen that are ok, but how can there be 30,000? And won't submitting your site to 30,000 other sites raise some questions about your site? Isn't this just more spam?

And what about this so called "guaranteed" traffic? I've tried about a dozen of these companies and they've all been a waste of time and money. Sure, they send you traffic, thousands of hits a day if you're willing to pay the price, but it's all worthless traffic. Much of it comes from pop-ups and redirections from people misspelling the website they were actually looking for. I recall paying one company for 100,000 guaranteed hits, which by looking at my server logs, I actually got. But, not one converted to a sale, in fact, I don't think any of these "hits" went past my landing page.

So, how can you promote your business? I'm in a very competitive field, selling web hosting and design, and I know it's extremely difficult to list high enough in the search listings to be seen, but it's not impossible. If you follow these tried and true steps, you'll find your business will grow and do well, even though it may not grow as quickly as you would like.

The first step is to make sure you have a product or service that people either need or want. How many people do you know who have Pet Rocks? How many of you have even heard of a Pet Rock? If you happen to be one of the first when a new fad comes out, you'll make money, but only in the short term. To continue making money over the long haul, have a good product or service.

Make sure your web site is complete and fully operational. Nothing will turn off a potential customer faster than a web site that's under construction or contains numerous broken links.

Optimize your web pages manually. You don't need special software; just edit the Meta tags with your favorite text editor, making sure that what you put in your description and keyword tags is what is actually displayed on your page. Don't try to stuff the tags with unrelated or misleading keywords because the web crawlers will detect this and not list your pages, or list them very low. Also, don't use text in images. You might be tempted to do this because you want to make sure your text is displayed with a certain type font, but the search engines can't read the text in graphics, and so will ignore it. And be sure to customize the Meta tags for each page. You can't create a generic description and keywords to use in every page on your site, because the search engines will detect this also.

Make sure that all your pages are linked from one or more pages on your site, and that all pages are accessible by following links on your index page. This is very important, because most search engines will start with your home page and discover your other pages by following the links. If your pages are not reachable from the index page, they may not be listed. And make sure you use the html anchor tag, not JavaScript, to link your pages. Most web crawlers will not follow JavaScript links.

If possible, select a domain name that contains your keywords. This single thing will greatly increase your chances of your listing showing higher in the search results. Of course, it's not always possible to get the domain name of your choice, or you may already have a domain name, but you should definitely look into this.

Now that your site is ready, it's time to promote it. From my experience, it's a waste of time and effort to bother with anything other than the top dozen search engines, so manually submit your site by visiting these search engines and using their submission links. It won't take more than an hour to do this, but it may take weeks or even months for your site to show up in the listings. Be patient - if you have a good site, it will be listed.

Now for the hard part. You need to get other sites to link back to your site. The best links are from sites that rank high in the search engines themselves. One way to do this is to research sites that relate to your site but are not directly competitive. If you are a wedding musician, for example, you may want a link from a wedding photographer. When you find potential sites that may link to yours, contact the owner of the sites and see if you can work out some kind of link exchange, but beware of link exchange programs. Most sites belonging to link exchanges place hundreds, or even thousands of unrelated links onto a "links" page, and most search engines will ignore these pages.

Another good way to get quality links is to write and submit articles to news and other content sites. These can generate thousands of quality hits that will convert to sales.

I hope my experience with website promotion will help others avoid the wasted time, money and mistakes I've made on the way to building my business. Despite what many of the quick promotion and SEO companies say, there is no quick and easy way to promoting your business. You need to work on it, and it's an ongoing commitment.

How To Monitor And Manage Search Engine Results

Keeping track of where your website ranks on Google for important keywords and keyword phrases can be a full time job. Although many tools exist for monitoring search engine position, properly evaluating SEO performance requires a disciplined approach.

There are a variety of ways to measure search engine rankings for your website. Popular website tools like SEO Elite and Web CEO include search engine ranking tools that can track where your site ranks for identified keywords. But what if you don’t own SEO software?

To evaluate search engine rankings, you simply need a means of measuring rankings on a regular basis. Follow these simple guidelines:

Create and maintain a spreadsheet of your rankings. Having a document that you continually update can help you see weekly changes as well as trends over time. Be sure to keep it updated at least once a week so that you are always aware of how you rank for keywords and keyword phrases you are watching.

You can choose your keyword list based on the keyword phrases you’ have selected as important, those your competitors rank well for, or individual phrases identified by SEO software. If you want to get a jump start, you can identify which keyword phrases your site is ranked for in the top 20 on Google using SEOdigger.com. This tool provides a listing of which keyword phrases your site ranks within the top 20 Google search results for and can be a great tool to identify your competitor’s keyword rankings.

Record changes in search engine result placements simply by entering each keyword term in to Google or using SEO software. You can also find free tools online to report your rankings like CleverStat or GoogleRankings.com.

Continue to make changes, build links, and record your results. This step will never be completed but rather is an ongoing process. You should strive to become number one on all your SERPs and get so far ahead that none of your competitors will be able to compete. This requires constant and never ending consideration to building links and creating more and more reasons for other sites to link to you.

Consider reciprocal linking, link acquisition, as well as adding free tools to your website, valuable content, and helpful downloads. Access to these tools is ideal if you want to attract links to your website. Once you’ve added these valuable tools, make sure to let others know that they exist. Consider a free press release, email campaign or promotion.

Expand your keyword list. As you improve your overall rankings on major search engines, consider adding other keywords phrases that may be relevant to your website, products or services. Focusing on an expanded keyword list can result in more traffic and broader appeal.

Monitoring and managing your search engine rankings, especially on Google is necessary if you wish to increase the organic traffic to your website. This begins with basic monitoring and evaluation of your rankings on key search engines. Once you’ve developed your spreadsheet, update your rankings each week with free tools or SEO software.

Continue to focus on your rankings and developing inbound links through free tools and resources on your site as well as proactive link requests. Over time, as you improve your rankings for key terms and phrases, expand your list. Improving your rankings is a never ending process, but an important one. Stay the course and you’ll experience the results you’re looking for.

Why Early Identification of Keyphrases are Important to your Websites Development.

Having a successful profitable website can depend on many factors, none more important than effective keyphrases selection. If you get your keyphrases wrong then it can have a major effect on your website.

As SEO or search engine optimisation can take months to take effect, finding out six months down the road that you have selected poor keyphrases that aren’t returning anything on your investment can be a hard pill to swallow. That’s why it’s very important you get it right from the get go.

When doing your keyphrase research try and think of targeted keyphrases because if you go for the more general keyphrases you will find that they are harder to get good listings for and the traffic will be of poor quality.

Let’s go into this in a little more detail, let’s take a fictitious company called Tartan Paint. Now you may think that “paint” may be a great keyphrase to use but in fact no. Doing a search on Google for “paint” yields 188,000,000 results. Now this keyphrase would be hard to get onto page one for and is far to general for Tartan Paints as they only sell tartan paint, and someone looking for any other kind of paint won’t find this site very useful.

So a far more targeted keyphrase would be of course “tartan paint” and as the time of writing this article Google yielded 168,000 results which is a far more achievable keyphrase. This may be a very simple example but I think you get the point.

If you are looking for a good website design Edinburgh I found this company to be of great help and can help you to increase website traffic.

Use your imagination and try to drill down to specific targeted keyphrases and your traffic will be far more targeted. Using the Google keyword tool can be a good place to check if your chosen keyphrases are actually been typed into there search engine. Some other good tools are Keyword Discovery and Wordtracker, although the later two tools aren’t free but are a great resource for finding good long tailed targeted keyphrases.

If you’re having trouble coming up with keyphrases try asking your friends and work colleges for ideas, as this could discover some hidden gems that you may not have thought of. Just remember that keyphrases are the foundation of your SEO campaign and need to be taken seriously.

Why Good Content Is The Key To Search Engine Optimization Success?

Although other factors such as the number of back links and placement of keywords in Title and META tags - are important, writing good content is really the key to search engine optimization success. Search engine always love good and original content. It just makes them rank your site higher on their search result pages.

With good content on your website, you can also encourage people to place a link back to you. This is called natural linking. Because your content is so useful and interesting, people want to share your content with their own readers through their websites. Therefore, they will provide a link back to you. With this, you are getting yourself quite a number of back links.

You should also update the content of your website frequently. Fresh content is always encouraged by search engines. That is why you can see that there is an increasing number of blogs which get high rankings on search engines when compared to static corporate sites. When you update your content frequently, search engine spiders will come back often to index your site. If your content is good and relevant, they will reward your site with high rankings.

When you are writing your content, make sure that you write it naturally. Do not repeat keywords too many times within the content. Search engines view this as spamming. Once they blacklist your site, you can forget about getting your website to rank high on search engines anymore.

If you run a corporate site, there are actually 2 ways to make sure that you can provide fresh and quality content for your clients. One way is to start a corporate blog. Make sure that you have someone in your company to post a blog post daily. Blog and search engine work very well together. Write something that is related to the products or services that you are offering. Or you can blog about the latest happenings in your industry. A well-maintained corporate blog can enhance a company's branding, as well as bringing more organic search engine traffic to the main corporate site.

Another way is to create more pages within your website. These additional pages can serve as your resource pages. You can place articles that you have written before on these pages. Just make sure that these articles are related to the industry that you are in.

With good content, you do not have to worry about search engine optimization. Good ranking will just come naturally.

Google Algorithm Update Analysis

Google algorithm update analysis is a standard with which an analysis can be made of the SEO rankings of various sites on the web world. The sudden up and down in the ranking of a website largely depends on three important things. These three are PageRank, backlinks and domain age.

Domain Age

It is basically the time period for which the website exists on internet. Google and other search engines attach a lot of importance to the domain age of a website for its ranking standards. Although a long domain age depicts a strong establishment of the company but this often appears to be a disadvantage, for the other new websites may have useful information and helpful user assistance sections.

Although, it has pushed back a lot of new websites but at the end of the day it has resorted the issue of unwanted and useless material topping the charts. There was once a time when, many websites were launched with unnecessary keyword loading just to top the search engine charts. With the trend or rather the method of choosing to make domain age as one of the base of SEO ranking, there is kind of sieving done by the Search engines to give the best results at once. So, with coming times ranking algorithms will soon be adjusted with the current trend to make web browsing more effective and fast.

Giving Domain age more relevance has greatly affected other factors ratings for search engine optimization because it seems to completely evade the content quality. In short, even if a website presents good meaningful content with right amount of keyword density to be in the web of SEO, it is likely to face the brunt if it is new to the market!

Back links

Along with the domain age system there has also been a slight alteration in the calculations of Backlinks. Earlier there was lesser importance given to reciprocal links but now search engine optimization takes in to account largely the number of reciprocal links a website has. Websites with reciprocal website link directories are rated higher with SEO ranking. So, if you are eying at good SEO ranking, a large link building back up can easily get you a good SEO ranking.

PageRank

Unlike the earlier trend, the PageRank has lost its importance with the search engines in the process of search engine optimization process. PageRank is related mainly to the Backlink value. In lieu of the Search Engine optimization process, the PageRank calls for little attention and if Google has taken a step ahead to rate it lower among Search engine optimization planning, it is a good step.

Most significant fact that should not be overlooked is that earlier Google used another measure for SEO ranking algorithm calculation. This algorithmic analysis tool was Trust Rank. It was basically the standard which depicted the trustworthiness of the site with Google, the search engine. Later the standard was discarded and PageRank was given the duty to perform in the Google algorithm analysis. Since now, PageRank also seems to loose the credibility in the process, there is likely a chance that it would shift to Trust Rank again.

Whatever may be the next update, Google update will definitely turn up with another analysis update because it is quite obvious that a website that has just been launched would be loaded with information that is latest rather than the one that exists since the starting of the millennium.

Related linking analysis is likely to show a higher graph and will be effective as there are chances that lower PageRanks but with high relevancy may win the race with high quantity and less relevant linking process.

The chance that Google is here looking forward to make the other tools more important for SEO ranking might give a chance to find out what actually went wrong with PageRank earlier, and so efforts will be made to make it even better. Consequently, if you have been worried about your search engine rank going higher; it might bring a smile to your face. However, you must keep in mind that SEO algorithm analysis tools updating is an ongoing process and the coming time will soon see a change in the scenario again like the one we see now.

What is best for you is that you need to adjust with the algorithm analysis to stand in good ranks and if you fail to do so, there might be a chance that you come up but when you never know.

Factors to be considered in SEO Services

Major tasks related with SEO Services are concerned with designing, content optimization, defining of meta tags, selection and analysis of keywords, and preparation of reports etc. You need to put emphasis on all these in order to successfully promote a website while offering SEO Services to the clients.

Many designers put all the important text in the form of an image. No doubt it looks attractive to the user but from search engine point of view it is not beneficial.

Many users do not put title and description tags on their web pages. The title tag is most important and it indicates about the content of the web page. So it is advisable not to leave or ignore the title tag otherwise you are loosing a good optimization opportunity. Similarly description tag is important. If you make a compelling description it will urge people to click to your website. Thus both title and description are important aspects of SEO Services.

Generally people put the same title and description tags on all the pages. It should be understood that every page is unique. As you can not mention all the keywords just on one page, so it is advisable to optimize a single page by mentioning one or two search terms in the title tag. This gives you the opportunity to use all your keywords thoroughly in different pages of the website.

When you redesign an existing site do not neglect the old urls because it is the old urls that attract traffic and search engines index those pages and people find those pages based on that information which search engines compiled from it.

Put the quality content in the website. You can not go with the website putting just a few pages with general descriptions about your company. It is necessary to mention the reviews and information to the consumers, users and customers. Try to make your site as a valuable resource. Both humans and search engines will recognize your site when you provide reliable and authoritative information in it. So the factor reliable and appropriate content can not be ignored in SEO Services.

Do put the company name in the title tag. People come to your website through popular keywords not via your company name. In case you want to brand your company put it in the else where in content and description.

Do not try to deceive the search engines with hidden text, cloaking or doorway pages. These methods do not work nowadays and you can be banned from search engine indices.

Generally many people do not use local keywords. As the competition in general keywords is too much, so it is better to optimize the website also for your local and regional keywords and this gives you a better chance of being found by people who need your products and services.

Write An Article Or Two A Day Forever

To keep the costs of your internet business down but at the same time improve the number of visitors your get to your site you need to seriously consider article marketing. Articles not only contain useful information or content on a particular subject but they also contain the url or hyperlink to the site of your choice. The best place to submit articles is site where you know they have a great deal of traffic every day; it doesn't take to long before the visitors begin to arrive at your site. Top sites are also viewed by search engines as authority sites so it is to your benefit in many ways to have your content accepted; trust is probably more important on the Internet because most people are faceless.

This method of article marketing needs to be done almost every day if you want your name to be associated as an expert so people look for your work. This is why it is so important to show people that you know what you are talking about so they trust the content you provide in the area you write about. Although it can take a while, this traffic from people that trust you will help your own search engine ranking; as your ranking grows, there will be even more visitors to your site. If there are many websites which link with your website then it increases your website ranking which in turn boost up your traffic gaining. more importantly, none of this traffic actually costs anything at all!

One of the major benefits of article marketing is the links that can be contained within not just the text body but also the 'bio' box at the bottom of the page. When your articles are good, they get spread around the internet and of course each version will have links back to your own so the more links you have, the more your ranking will grow. Just how quickly you will visited by a search engine and listed can vary enormously from a day to months! Although you cannot rush the search engines directly, submitting more articles and using the authority sites will help enormously.

Adding fresh and unique content to your site regularly will boost your article marketing campaign and help its ranking. Don't forget that many visitors to your site are not visiting to buy something. Visitors are searching for information so the more precise and truthful you can be about whatever it is you are promoting the better. It is at this point that the sales promotion can be used. It is important they understand why they are buying a product so this process is important. The last thing you want after making the sale is to return the money, so by carrying out this process you lessen your chance of it happening.

If you want visitors to your websites then you must continue your article marketing this way; this process must be repeated on a regular basis for it to work. The aim is to have other website owners link their site to yours in addition to using your content as well; having your article duplicated on other people's sites can bring a great deal of traffic. Article marketing is still by far the easiest way to drive traffic to your website and it doesn't cost a cent; all you need is to keep supplying them with the information they are looking for in the form of articles.

Why SEO Has The Highest ROI of Any Marketing Strategy The Internet Has To Offer

If you are the owner of a website you probably must by thinking that SEO is just one more business expense that you have to bear without getting any good ROI in return.

However, with a little bit more research, it will become apparent to you that in reality SEO are actually going to give you back a lot more for the time, money and effort that you put into investing in SEO.

In fact, the ROI from SEO is better than for any other marketing strategy and it will in fact also effectively bring to your website greater business while also being the most cost beneficial for your online business.

In today's world of information technology, the Internet is the most used medium that people use when looking for products, services and even information as well as news. Thus, search engines such as Google and Yahoo are letting people find what they need which could be anything from looking for friends, best dog food or any other piece of information.

Even people that visit your website will, in more than seventy-five percent cases come to your website via a search engine. What's more, people that scan search engine result pages will generally not look beyond the first three pages of results.

Thus, getting your website ranked high enough to fall within these first three search engine results pages has to be your goal.

If you then consider the fact that a website that ranks high enough can expect to get twice the number of visitors than for low ranked websites, you can easily understand why SEO or search engine optimization will prove to be the best answer to your business's growth needs.

You will also find that on average a high ranked website sees about fifty-seven percent growth in visitors which in turn leads to a possible doubling of the site's revenue.

Since search engine optimization or SEO is generally best done by experts, using their services will definitely help you get better results. With a professionally managed website that incorporates the best in SEO, your website will grow in terms of both visitors and sales and thus your business will realize maximum ROI which would be far more than if you had used other marketing strategies.

Two Vital Tools For SEO - Well, For Me

The Internet has revolutionized business and you need a presence to make money in the digital age. While everyone has their favorite tools, I prefer two in particular.

Two Vital Tools For SEO – Well, For Me

Most businesses build sites without really having a clue regarding how to go about it. The first step in developing a business site is not building it. Instead, you have to focus on the internet marketing aspect of the business and design accordingly. To this end, there are two tools that can be considered from my point of view.

The single best tool you need to become familiar with is Wordtracker. This tool is the proverbial golden egg of Internet marketing. Wordtracker lets you take a keyword and find out all the phrases people are using that incorporate the keyword. You can then take the list of keywords and find out how many searches are occurring on any of the big search engines – Yahoo, Google and MSN. On top of this, you can also determine how difficult it will be to get top rankings for the keyword phrases through search engine optimization.

Wordtracker is great because it allows you to determine if there is a market for your idea before you waste time and money on it. It can also be used to come up with ideas for sites. You simply type in a keyword like “travel” and see if there is a niche with a lot of traffic and a nominal amount of competition for rankings. If you find the niche, you tailor a business idea to it and make a boatload of money.

As if Wordtracker isn’t enough, there is a second tool I have come to love. Introducing the article directory. The key to being really profitable on the Internet is getting free traffic. You do this through search engine optimization or by getting publicity. With either area, this has traditionally been accomplished through link trading. Essentially, you agree to put another persons link on your site in exchange for them doing the same with yours. As you might imagine, it takes a long time to build up enough links to get high rankings and publicity. Article directories solve this problem, which makes them great internet marketing tools.

An article directory is exactly what it sounds like. You write an article and deposit it in the directory. Webmaster and editors from all over the world search the directories looking for content for their sites. When they republish your article, you get free publicity. Even better, you will create links in the author area of your article and they will publish those on their site as well. You are either reading this article in a directory or it came from one. Or someone ripped me off…lol.

Everyone has their favorite tools they use to have a go at marketing and seo. I prefer these, but others would argue for others. In response, all I can say is this work for me and I am far too lazy to go find something new. Halstatt Pires is with MarketingTitan.com - providing Internet marketing services.

Major SEO Mistakes & Misconceptions You Should Avoid

Almost every Internet surfer locates or finds new Web sites by using search engines like Google, Yahoo, or MSN. When you go to these sites, you type in what you are looking for and generally find it in the top two or three results of the search page.

What takes place behind the scenes of your Internet search usually involves complex software that is intelligent enough to determine which pages are the most relevant to your search. If you are searching for a product or service online, you will search for the product name and usually buy it from a firm that pops up near the top of the result list.

The art of search engine optimization refers to the process of figuring out which search phrases, or "key words", which Web users might use to find what you are offering, and then doing everything necessary to put these results on the top of the search results, which enables Web surfers to visit your site.

Major seo Misconceptions To Avoid

There are some who think that performing and seo process is a one-shot deal, where you achieve every optimization objective in one swing. Nope, that's not the case. This process may take some time to fully manifest itself, and while some use unethical methods to achieve top rankings in the quickest possible ways, it’s not the right thing to do. Here are a few among many misconceptions about how seo works.

- Submitting To Thousands Of Search Engines

It's a fact that a handful of search engines account for about 90% of all the web traffic generated and the rest comes from people typing in a web site's URL indirectly into their browser's address bar. The amount of viewers generated from these Mega-Search submittal services is so insignificant, that it's hardly worth any consideration.

--Using Graphics For Text Links.

Web designers often use graphics to represent a link in a Web site, and there are many reasons for doing this. Unfortunately for Web designers, the major Internet browsers display web pages in different ways.

Since fonts display differently on individual computers and in different browsers, it is a much simpler idea for designers to create graphic links than it is to attempt to create cross-browser text links. If a Web site must use graphics for navigation, it is vital to include a set of plain text links somewhere on the Web page, usually at the bottom of the page.

- Putting too Much Emphasis On Paid Search Advertising

The rationale is that since search advertising can be purchased, it isn't necessary to focus on search optimization techniques. While paid search advertising is a highly potent in targeting an audience, organic search optimization greatly increases the chances of success for any Web site. Ensure that the Web site you are advertising is one that people can find easily without the aid of a paid search campaign.

Design Web Site First & Optimize Later

Even experienced Web designers fail to consider the results of design choices on search optimization until it's too late. What's the point of spending thousands for a well "designed" Web site if no one ever visits it? You need to consult a search engine specialist early in the process. Even if your site’s marketing strategy relies fully on paid search advertising, a consultation with an optimization expert may reveal flaws in your site's layout.

- Lack of Keyword Research And Updates

If you have a Web site, do you know what pages in your site are creating the most interest?, and do you know what terms people are searching for that result to them locating your site? Doing proper keyword research helps solve these concerns, as successful search engine marketing relies on constant research and updates.

What works today might not work tomorrow, and we need to be able to identify the pros and cons in our Internet marketing campaigns and must always research, update and adapt.

SEO From the Beginning

Article By Carrie Haggerty

I have talked to a number of people being in the SEO world and have come to the conclusion that search engine optimization starts when you choose a domain name. I know that there are a lot of different opinions on choosing a domain name, but it never hurts to have a few good keywords in it.

When you decide you want to start a website, research your chosen field’s keywords before you start. Keyword selection is your best friend in search engine optimization. Know what your niche market is, sometimes what you think is a good keyword is not necessarily what your common web surfer is searching. Professionals in an industry tend to use different terminology than the layman. Keyword research will tell you what people are actually searching for as opposed to what you assume they are searching for.
