Choosing the right keywords - are you targeting the right keywords for your web site?
Article by Michael Cheney (www.magnet4web.com)

Ever wondered what the most important aspect of online marketing is? Choosing the right keywords is the answer.

If you do not choose the right keywords to market your web site online your capacity to attract high volumes of targeted visitors will be severely limited. Keywords and the words and phrases that you wish to associate with your web site. If potential visitors type these words or phrases into a search engine you would like your web site to show up in the results. But if your methods of choosing these keywords are haphazard your online marketing results will be likewise.

The best way to start thinking about keywords for your web site is to put yourself in the shoes of your customer. Turn the process around and rather than trying to describe what it is you do / sell / provide - think of potential questions one of your customers might ask. People use the Internet for information - they have a question they need answering or a problem they need solving. Which words and phrases are associated with the questions and problems your customers face prior to doing business with you?

Brainstorming is a great way to come up with keywords and phrases. Earmark some time away from your PC and get together with colleagues, some marker pens and lots of paper. Then start firing ideas of each other - write everything down that comes to mind no matter how silly or off the wall it may seem at the time.

Another excellent way of developing key phrases is to ask your existing customers what they typed in or what they might type in to find the products or services that you provide.
But this is only the beginning ... How do you know which words to select? How can you tell which words are being sought after most?
